What is Cataract ?

The human eye contains a lens which helps to focus the image. When the lens gets cloudy then the vision becomes hazy. This is called cataract .

How do you diagnose cataract?

Cataract is diagnosed by a slit lamp evaluation, which is performed by an Ophthalmologist, eye surgeon.

How do you treat cataract?

There is no medicine to cure cataract. Therefore after the cataract is matured surgery is the only cure

What is phacoemulsification?

When the lens is hard and opaque we nowadays perform minimnal access eye Surgery. In this procedure we make a small incision. And then liquefy the lens and suck it out. This is called phacoemulsification.

What is IOL implantation?

Afler the damaged lens is removed then an artificial lens is reimplanted into the eye These lenses are foldable so they can be introduced via a small micro incision. These lens then unfold inside the eye to replace the earlier damaged lens .This is called intra-ocular lens implant.

What is the surgical experience like?

After your consultation with an eye surgeon. The patient is admitted for a day care surgery. No fasting ís required. fyou are on blood thinners like aspirin and clopidogrell they have to be stoppedseven days in advance

Routine blood tests like Sugar, ECG are also done. is performed under local is procedure This aneasthesia . Generally it requires less than one hour to perform this painless procedure. After procedure you shall be observed in the recovery room for three hours.

What is the recovery period and advice?

You can have normal diet after this surgery. Routine medications are advised at home. Dressing is changed the day after surgery at the eye clinic, and Vou shall be called back for vision check after seven days. After further 7 days your refraction or power of your spectacles is checked and given.
